Marshalls Match Report 7th November 2015

Marshalls Purple played Manor A in their league match this week. The game began tight and followed suit through until half time. Sam Dick, Emma Joughin (joint coaches’ player) and Jo Cook worked tirelessly in mid-court to feed the ball through to the attack. Stacey Wade Player of the Match and Leah Humphries continued to shoot well to keep Marshalls in a tight game. The third quarter saw Marshalls go 3 down despite defensive pressure and turnovers being made by Kirsty Herbert, Jade Cornhill and Jodie Pearce (joint coaches’ player). The final quarter proved tough for Marshalls finishing with them taking an 11 goal defeat, of 36-47.
Marshalls Yellow was playing Kelmscott in the first game of the day. Marshalls started well but within the first 5 minutes Marshalls lost their shooter Steph Herbert to an injury. Megan Gowing took to the court and the youngster settled in well pairing with Leah Humphries to net some lovely goals mid court of Sarah Braiden, Jodie Meehan and Player of the Match Jamie Daltry worked hard to intercept many passes but by half time Kelmscott had managed to take a lead of Marshalls 11 Kelmscott 18. Marshalls continued to work tirelessly and with Jade Cornhill replacing Leah Humphries Marshalls managed to stay in touch. In the last defensive pairing of Laura Burling and Georgia Mellor managed to intercept Kelmscott passes but with the weather getting the better of them Marshalls lost the game with a score Marshalls 22 Kelmscott 36.
Marshalls White was playing Leyton C in their division 5 game, with three of their regular players missing Marshalls took a little time to settle and into the rhythm and with some very tricky conditions saw Marshalls go into the break with a score Marshalls Leyton 11. In the second quarter Marshalls defence of Kirstie Woodgate and Scarlett Jacks worked hard in the circle to force Leyton into having to shoot from a distance and making mistakes allowing Marshalls to take the initiative and open up a lead at half time with a score Marshalls 24 Leyton 18. In the third Marshalls mid court of Becky Stamp, Emma Drive and Ellie Noble intercepted many Leyton pass bringing the ball through the court to allow their shooters to slot home their goals allowing Marshalls to extend their lead at the last break Marshalls 35 Leyton 20. Although the weather had not improved Marshalls shooters of Hannah Monk and Megan Gowing were determined to work hard and keep the goals ticking over with some fantastic shooting saw Marshalls extend their lead and finish the game with a superb win keeping their 100% record and a score Marshalls 51 Leyton C 28. Player of the match went to Scarlet Jacks and coaches player to Ellie Noble.
Marshalls Red played Oakwood A in their tightest game of the season so far. The reds took a while to get going, but after most of the first quarter shooters, Joelene Whykes and Alex Mellor, linked with mid court, Steph Russell, Rhian Lewis and Emma Bruns and started netting some goals. However Oakwood had pulled in front by a few goals, seeing the score at quarter time Marshalls 6 Oakwood 9. Marshalls had to work hard after the break to close the gap. Changes saw Bruns drop back into the defensive circle to work with Carolyn Kazali, Joelene Whykes and Alex Mellor linked well in the shooting circle and netted some beautiful goals. Mid court of Carlie Griggs started to find space and move the ball through the court the defensive combinations started to close down the Oakwood shooters. Not long afterwards Marshall took the lead and kept the score ticking and pulled away at half time to 16-14. With the team now working better together they held the lead until the end of the game winning 37-30. Player of the match went to Joelene Whykes, coach’s player Carolyn Kazali.
Marshalls Black had a hard fought game against Essex Open D in their division 6 game. Aimee Millie (player), Becky Stamp and Val Barnes (coach’s player) played an outstanding game in defence, closing down all the space and making many interceptions, seeing Marshalls stay in touch and at half time the score was Marshalls 12 Essex Open 12 Becky McKenna, Amy Woods and Katie Weaver all played well in mid court linking up across the court and, although at times struggled to find space, they did well to find their attacking players, going into the last break 5 down. In the last quarter Marshalls worked hard a closed the gap to within 1 goal seeing Suzie Willis have a fantastic game and along with Sue Steele they both netted some wonderful goals unfortunately for Marshalls the final whistle blew seeing Marshalls lose the game 24-27.
Marshalls Gold took on Foxes 3 in one of the last games of the day, with the weather still being very windy Marshalls took a little while to get going. In the first quarter Marshalls attack of Becky Higginson and Aimee Millie worked hard to get the ball into the net, but with Foxes having a tall shooter Marshalls were not able to take any advantage seeing the score at the first break Marshalls 10 Foxes 10. Marshalls made some changes in the second seeing Aimee Millie move into the defensive circle with Tamara Parkes and Sophie Long go into the attacking circle to pair up with Becky Higginson, although the pair worked hard and with some lovely feeding from Gill Ring, Tracey Grove and Mia Gladman Marshalls were not able to pull away with the teams locked at half time 18 all. With more changes in the third seeing Sam O’Brien, Kirsty Hogben and Charlotte Higginson take to the court to see if Marshalls could break the deadlock but with the wind causing havoc neither team could break away and at the last quarter saw the score Marshalls 27 Foxes 27. In the last Marshalls managed to make a break with excellent defending from Player of the match Tamara Parkes thwarting Foxes shooters and Marshalls shooters slotting home their goals Marshalls finished the game winning with a score Marshalls 39 Foxes 31. Coaches Player went to Kirsty Hogben.
Marshalls Pink’s game in Division 9 was against Cambell Yellow, seeing both teams start well and with some awful conditions neither team could pull away seeing the score at the first break Marshall 3 Cambell 5. In the second Cambell seemed to settle quicker than Marshalls and although the defence of Kathryn Bailey and Josie East worked hard Cambell were able to extend their lead at half time to Marshalls 6 Cambell 10. In the second half of the game Marshalls could not seem to get the ball into the shooting pairing of Sandra Long and Louise Banham Scott and although the mid court of Jess Cheek, Georgia Thorpe-Chamberlain and Claire Kelly worked tirelessly Marshalls could not avoid the defeat with a final score Marshalls 9 Cambell 21 Player of the match was Josie East and Coaches Player Georgia Thorpe- Chamberlain.
With really bad weather conditions Marshalls Silver started really well in their division 10 game against Phoenix Flames. Phoenix picked up their game in the second quarter and defence of Holly Stubbs and Jess Empson did well to keep Marshalls in the game seeing the score at half time Marshalls 6 Phoenix 10. As the weather got worse the attack of Sally Burling and Phoebe Madden struggled to slot home their shots, mid court of Jan Woods and Charlotte Grundy battled hard but the wind was causing much disruption and not helping matters at the last break the score was Marshall 7 Phoenix 19. Marshalls rallied in the final quarter and with minutes to go Lucy Stubbs and Amelia Owers managed to put Phoenix under pressure allowing Marshalls to close the gap to get within 10 goals seeing the final score Marshalls 13 Phoenix 23. Player of the Match went to Holly Stubbs and Coach’s Player to Amelia Owers.
Marshalls under 14’s played Essex Open U13’s this week in a very tight and exciting match. Marshalls took the lead 5-3 in the first quarter with great defending from Evie Thomas, Lily Rorie and Roxy Brown. Essex Open gradually pulled it back and went into the last quarter 1 up despite numerous turnovers in mid-court by Molly Curling, Grace Roberts and Alice Dickson. Marshalls went out fighting for the last quarter making huge impact with strong shooting from Jess Smith (player of the match) and Niamh Moloney. They took a fantastic win of 18-15. Evie Thomas and Lily Rorie took coaches player.
Marshalls U13’s played Leyton U14’s B in this week’s game, Marshalls started well and under some very windy conditions saw Marshalls move the ball around the court seeing shooters Emma Baldino and Bethany Hawkins try their hardest and at quarter time the score was Marshalls 2 Leyton 3. Leyton had a tall shooter and in the second quarter although Marshalls defence of Eloise Long and Tia James worked hard Leyton extended their lead at half time to Marshalls 5 Leyton 9. The third saw Marshalls mid court of Lucie Grundy, Alexia James, Abby Vile and Katie Adams work tirelessly to bring the ball through the court and at the last break the score was Marshalls 6 Leyton 10. In the last Marshalls never gave up and managed to pull back to within 1 goal, but Leyton were able to hold on finishing the gam winning Marshalls 10 Leyton 13. Player of the Match went to Bethany Hawkins and Coach’s Player jointly to Eloise Long and Tia James.
Marshalls U12 played Phoenix Flames in their early morning clash Marshalls started well with defence of Ella Wilkins and Olivia Adams intercepting numerous balls from Phoenix as they tried to find their shooters, whilst in the mid court Molly Hickman Abi Clarkson, Tayllah Wood and Isabella Lacey moved the ball from defence to attack with ease allowing the Marshalls shooters of Millie Walker and Ruby Sayer to find the net with ease. Marshalls made several changes during the game allowing the whole team to play positions they would not normally play seeing the Marshalls girls not lose their flow in the game and to run out comfortable winners Marshalls 26 Phoenix Flames 2
Marshalls U11’s were playing Essex Open U11 Blue. After their last encounter against an Essex Open team Marshalls were slightly nervous when they started the game, but the youngsters soon showed they were going to give Essex Open a run for their money with Aoife Moloney and Victoria Richards slotting home some lovely goals the rest of the team chased down many passes not allowing Essex to gain too much of a lead Caitlin McClinchey and Georgia Lagden worked hard in defence to deny the Essex Open shooters on several occasions whilst Daisie Evans-Stuart, Gracie Hickman, Caomihe Moloney , Amelia Horton moved the ball through the court their confidence growing the whole time. With some terrible conditions the youngsters battled hard and at the final whistle saw the score Marshalls 9 Essex Open U11’s 19.
