This was the first 2nd XV team game for seven years for Martock RFC, and was a great success; not in terms of the result, but because a lot of guys that are new to the sport who have been training hard were given an opportunity to play a competitive game. It also has to be said, they did extremely well. You can do all the training in the world, but you need games to understand positional sense and to learn to read the game and make the right decisions during a game. Every player gave their all and could certainly walk off the pitch with their heads held high after a very encouraging performance. The first 2nd team try of the new era of Martock RFC was scored by James Catley-Day, after some fine team work that created the opportunity. However Tor 3RD XV had a few more older and wiser heads, and used that advantage by scoring three tries to our one. The final score was 15-5 to Tor RFC. It was a very good effort from Martock RFC, and I'm sure the guys will be much better the next time they cross the white line for the next 2nd team fixture. This shows that Martock RFC is a club on the up, and some exciting times are just around the corner for this club…
