Match reports Sunday 9th March

Claire Hanbury10 Mar - 20:58

Another great weekend of rugby in the sunshine

Under 7’s & Under 8’a
Under 8s joined forces with the mighty under 7s this morning at a beautiful and sunny Dronfield. Some mixed training and matches worked wonders. The under 7s were a little nervous to play up a year but after only a few minutes their confidence grew and matched their ability. Credit to under 7 coaches for what they have achieved. Thoroughly enjoyable morning. Thank
You all.

Under 9’s
U9s smashed it out of the park today! From the word go, they were on the front foot in defence and attack. Comprehensively beating Dronfield at Dronfield. Some fantastic tackling forced Dronfield into multiple turn overs and Matlock took the advantage with some direct running and some really improved off loading. A very happy team and coaches compared to last week!!

Under 10’s
Lovely morning at Cromford with the U10s from Dronfield. An evenly matched set of games with all of our players showing improvements and skill. Some strong ball carriers even passed the ball today and some of the ruck and maul work would put our seniors to shame. Well done to both teams

Under 11’s
The U11s seem to be solar powered as once again in the bright sunshine they shone this time against Dronfield. Matock used the ball quickly at the breakdown, but most pleasing was the concentration levels of the players and our defence. Resulting in an almost unblemished result. To their credit, Dronfield stuck at it for the entire game MATLOCK 30 - 1 DRONFIELD

Under 14’s
U14s played Southwell at home. The team used the firm ground and excellent conditions to great effect, putting the ball through the hands and slicing Southwell's defense open. Southwell played with a great spirit and kept going despite the score. Final score Matlock 52 Southwell 5.

Under 15’s
U15s continued their recent good form at home to Mellish in the glorious sunshine. The dry conditions and firm ground meant we could unleash our fast and elusive runners to great effect, resulting in a glut of tries; and our defence was as strong as ever. The lads are developing some great interplay between forwards and backs, which is great to see. All in all, a satisfying morning and a comfortable victory 71-12.

Under 16’s
U16s away to Burton and came away with a 28-29 win. A controlled first half against the wind, and some excellent support play and breaks saw Matlock comfortable up at half time. Hard ground, some indecision, poor choices and a determined opposition meant Burton clawed back into the game but Matlock held on for a deserved win.
