Derek Alldridge

The Club is sad to announce the death of Derek Alldridge on 10th December 2024 aged 93 years.

Derek was formerly the Secretary of the Club for 27 years until his retirement from that post. Even after retirement he remained a stalwart of the Club, attending most home games until the past two years when declining health prevented regular attendance. In total he was with the Club for well over 50 years.

Derek’s service at the Club is marked by some remarkable achievements which saw the Club progress through a number of Leagues including the Spartan, Athenian, Southern and finally the Isthmian League to provide truly competitive football for police officers for a long period when the Club was truly a works team.

During that time Derek ensured that the facilities at the Club kept pace with the demands of the various leagues to provide some of the best infrastructure available in non-league football. Of particular note were the introduction of a sprinkler system and under pitch drainage to ensure an excellent playing surface, dressing rooms and a board room for entertaining visiting officials which is the envy of many. His final achievement followed on from the Bradford City fire disaster when in line with the Taylor Report the old wooden grandstand was replaced with a modern 300 seat structure.

Derek was well liked and respected in football circles and following retirement was appointed a Vice President of the Isthmian League and Life President of the Suburban League.

As well as being a football man, Derek had outstanding social skills and could hold his own at all levels of society. He had a warm personality and a broad, engaging smile. Always a good host.

Derek leaves a widow and two sons and a daughter.

We will miss him.
