Mevagissey played and defeated Lostwithiel for the third time this season

Saturday 17th December
Mevagissey 6-3 Lostwithiel
For the third time this season, Mevagissey played a visiting side lost at the bottom of the table and following the 9 goal thriller of Gorrans Porridge Pitch, another 9 goals were scored on a playing surface that yet again survived the ice and snow.
Meva started brightly and scored in the opening 90 seconds, as they did against Gorran, with some neat passing in the middle between Lloyd Grose & Rory Dixon, releasing Harry Prynn down the right hand side to cut back a pass into Scott Daly who sent a dipping curling effort past a stranded Billy Davies for 1-0. Scott would then be on the end of a few crunching tackles from the Lostwithiel, prompting a word from the ref. Nad was then caught late after a neat 1-2 but no foul was given. One defender clearly lost his hearing or his short term memory as he clattered Scott to the floor for an obvious penalty. Away side enraged surrounding the referee claiming foul play but to no avail, as Scott dusted himself down to slot away for 2-0!
Lostwithiel found some rhythm and combined to fight back, sending a lot down Mevagisseys left hand side. At times, a throw in was not dealt with, and after some passes exchanged, an unmarked Lostwithiel attacker on the edge of the box send a deflected effort beyond Charley for 2-1. 60 seconds later. Lostwithiel doubled thier score, as Mevagissey tried to close out the lead til half time. Dropping a bit too deep, there was space to be utilised and an unmarked number 7 had time to take a touch and pass into the corner.
Half time came with some changes made. Nathan Chapman coming on to win some duels alongside Lloyd Grose who didn't lose a single duel or header all game. Lostwithiel re-entered the pitch trying to get the win. More bearings and concentrations would be lost following a Mevagissey set piece when Harry Prynn's arcing ball into the box was met by a red and black shirt, who sent a peach of a header into the top corner leaving his goalkeeper lost at sea. 3-2 Mevagissey.
Brandon Chapman then upped it a notch, by turning defenders inside and out to run down the left hand side, getting to the byline and fizzing a ball across the box to find Scott Daly who couldn't miss. No telekinetic powers lost between these two who are very much in fine form! 4-2!
5-2 would come moments later and with it went Lostwithiel's fight. Another delightful Harry Prynn ball towards Brandon Chapman was intercepted and put past his own keeper by a Lostwithiel centre half .
Another Losty move saw a full back from deep, ghost into the box to make it 5-3 with 15 minutes to go, before Daniel Peters would get on the end of a Harry Prynn saved shot to blast the ball into an empty net to make it 6-3. Billy Gordon came on to shore up things in midfield with 10 to go as another fine Mevagissey performance came to a close and drew a line under 2022.
MOTM: Lloyd Grose for a commanding game in midfield⚽️
Congratulations also to Scott Daly a hat trick in our last 3 games.
Secret Santa took place in the Ship Inn after the game, which would have probably been a relief for the opposition who failed to join us for food and drink; probably would have Lost their gifts anyway ? ???
The team then went onto Meva Spice and the local bars to see the year out. From all the Yellow & Greens and the countless staff & sponsors who make our Saturdays very enjoyable, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2023 where the boys hope to continue the fine goalscoring form, particularly in the junior cup!
