Leek Wootton simply crossed the road to Police HQ to play a league fixture against promotion pushing Mid-Warks Police FC.

Before the game both teams completed a minutes silence in memory of George Sears, a Sergeant well known in Leamington who passed away at the age of 69. He was the youngest Judo Black Belt in the country at the age of 17 and Played for Mid-Warks Police in the seventies. May he rest in peace.

The game started well for the hosts who had a number of chances to get their noses infront early on, they controlled possesion and kept the ball well, Surpreet Samra and Nathan Woodfield, who were playing out of their normal postions on the wings had acres of space and were started to cause mayhem amongst the Leek Wootton back 4, they were being fed by the central partnership of Gethins and Stevenson who simply were not putting a foot wrong.

The opening goal of the game came on the back of a mix-up in the Leek Wootton ranks, a goal kick from the keeper didn't quite have the distance and a quick thinking Jimmy Gethins controlled the ball well on his chest and drove at the defence, he was caught by the first defender but good advantage from the referee led to him skinning the centre half and burying the ball into the bottom corner, a very good individual goal, 1-0.

It should have been 2 nil 5 minutes later when Nick Brunton was taken out by the keeper and the ref pointed to the spot, Brunton, who seemed to have morphed into Nathaniel Clyne for the day, played a ball into Woodfield and just kept on going, Nathan slipped Nick through on goal, the end result being a penalty. Jim Quinlan stepped up and blazed the ball miles over, reports indicate it landed on Blackpool Pleasure Beech.

The visitors, who had yet to register a shot on target did find themselves 2-0 down on 30 mintues, the dangerous right wing partnership of Brunton and Woodfield doing the damage. Woodfield was released down the wing and fired a cross towards the far post, the defender should really have cleared his lines but his mis-timed clearance only bounced under him and at the feet of Samra, he controlled and hammered it into the net, 2-0.

Steve Okoye pretty much put the game to bed just before half time, Pete Squires chipped a ball over the top, Okoye and the big central defender ran into each other with Steve managing to come out on top, he turned a buried his effort, 3-0.

Half Time

Craig Marshall made his 2nd appearance of the season from the bench after declaring himself fully fit, he replaced Okoye in a straight swap up top, a 2nd substitution switched the home sides shape to a 4-4-2 with Marshall and Allison leading the line, the chances were coming time after time only for a mixture of bad shots (James), good keeping and solid defending keeping the score line respectable.

A few changes by the visitors sparked a bit of fight and they began to keep hold of the ball in the middle, they whipped a few balls in from the right wing, along with winning a few corners but the defending was second to none and everything was mopped up.

Jim Quinlan finished the game off for good after a nice move that started in depth of the Police defence between Samra and Cheung, pretty much next to the corner flag, Cheung went on a mazy run playing one-two's with Woodfield and Brunton, he finially picked out Nathan Woodfield who skinned the left back before squaring a ball into Jim Quinlan, his left wand did the rest, 4-0.
