AFC Monton hosted FC Unsworth for this Manchester league Second Division fixture and were unfortunately held to a draw as the visitors managed an equaliser with virtually the last kick of the match.
Monton had taken the lead with a goal scored by Liam Foster on the stroke of half time after an exciting first forty five minutes of good football played by both sides. FC Unsworth were well organised in all areas of the pitch, especially in defence and were quick to break with precise passing moves so it was somewhat of a surprise that the goal they conceded was from a Monton corner. Disappointingly for Monton they lost last week`s hat trick hero Sam McMahon with an ankle injury, later diagnosed at the Hospital following an x-ray, as fractured.
The second half saw both sides continue to play entertaining football but once more Monton lost Rob Cooke with another ankle injury and had to re-shuffle the defence and slightly lost their rhythm. The next player to go off injured was forward Jamie Baguley with a hamstring pull and the visitors sensed a way back into the game, and so it came in the dying seconds of the game as they equalised with a well taken goal to earn a well deserved draw.
