Our pre-season schedule continues this weekend, when we travel to Sutton United on Sunday.

THE OPPOSITION

Sutton United were untouchable at times as they strolled to the London & South East Regional League Division One North title last season.

Interim manager Will Letts guided them to silverware with an 11-0 win over Clapham United in their penultimate game of the season, before he was rewarded by being appointed permanent boss in May.

Sutton will now play at step five for the new campaign, in the London & South East Regional League Premier Division as they look to continue their climb up the football pyramid.

We are their second pre-season test after their opener against Abbey Rangers was called off. A local derby against AFC Wimbledon took place at Carshalton Athletic on Tuesday evening.

THE ONE TO WATCH

Sophie Hendy's goals were crucial en route to winning the title last season.

The former Tottenham forward had been with the north London-based side since she was 11 and scored 15 times in eight Spurs appearances in 2019/20.

She joined Sutton at the start of the following season, and netted 12 times in just six starts last term.

THE COACH'S VERDICT

"A big part of the Sutton game is preparing for the extra travel that's going to be involved next season," head coach Skip Kelly said.

"The fact it's against a step-five team is an added bonus and gives us a chance to test ourselves against superior opposition. Every time we've done that before we've been able to match them but Sutton are significantly better than anything we've faced in our league and that's what next season is going to be like for us."

THE DETAILS

Our pre-season fixture against Sutton United will take place at Gander Green Lane on Sunday, July 17.
