Morley’s 11 match winning run came to an abrupt end when they suffered a crushing 34-8 derby defeat to a rampant Cleckheaton.

The Moorenders pack were simply too strong and powerful as the blitzed Morley to complete a derby double.
Some Morley supporters felt aggrieved at the display of the referee, who sin-binned four players during the game and awarded a staggering 16 penalties against Morley.
Cleck took full advantage and three of their five tries came from catch and drive line-outs.
Cleckheaton opened the scoring after nine minutes when Iain Gordon kicked to the right corner and Richard Piper was driven over the line to score.
Gordon landed a penalty soon after and poor discipline gifted Cleck more possession near the line but this time the Maroons defence held firm.
Gordon and Morley’s Dave Green spent time in the sin-bin and just before half-time Cleck’s Grant Turton was yellow carded following a scuffle. Simon Bradshaw kicked the resulting penalty to make it 8-3 at half-time.
Cleckheaton dominated the second half and within four minutes of the restart they added a second try as Ollie Akroyd was hauled down short but impressive scrum-half Jack Bickerdike gathered the ball from the back of the maul, showed a quick turn of pace and darted over to score, Gordon added the conversion.
Back – to – back penalties put Cleckheaton back on attack with another catch and drive. The visiting pack again drove Morley back and Richard Piper emerged from under a pile of bodies to claim his 19th try of the season. Gordon landed a superb touchline conversion to put Cleck 22-3 ahead.
Morley briefly threatened a comeback as Kobi Gyasi attempted an interception before kicking the ball ahead and winning the race to score, but it was Cleckheaton who regained their supremacy.
When a Morley move broke down, Cleck immediately chipped the ball left and Ross Hatden won the race to gather and gleefully dive over for the bonus-point fourth try.
Simon Bradshaw was sin-binned for denying Cleckheaton a scoring opportunity and from another catch and drive Cleckheaton drove forward James Wilson over on the left. Gordon’s brilliant conversion completed a miserable day for Morley.
