Leigh Miners Rangers 20 Myton Warriors 26

Myton Warriors got their season up and running after their opening day defeat by Skirlaugh with a superb win at Leigh Miners Rangers. The home side were let down by their own discipline and have now had back to back defeats.

The home side got off to a great start with two unconverted tries in the opeing seven minutes to open up an 8-0 lead. Winger Lewis Grimes broke through the Myton defence twice but Tom Worthington was unable to land the resultant conversions.

An Alec Hobman try midway through the half saw Myton on the scoreboard before a further try from Adam Piggott plus an Ash James conversion saw a 10-8 lead. Lee James added a third Myton try as Miners had Matty McGowan sin binned for dissent before a Liam Ward try gave Myton an 18-8 half-time lead.

Six minutes into the second half Miners replied with a Mark Thomas try as Worthington landed the conversion. Myton hit back just two minutes later with a second Ward try as the boot of James made it 24-14.

Back came Miners just before the hour when Adam Thomasson went in as Worthing to was again on target to make it 24-20. Miners then lost skipper Darryl Kay to the sin bin for dissent as James landed the resultant penalty before McGowan was sent off on the final whistle for foul and abusive language.
