Biography

A Warwick-born goalkeeper, with a great attitude and work ethic, who initially joined us on loan from Scottish club Livingston in January 2016 before agreeing a one-year contract with the club in May 2016. He is the son of Jonathan Gould, who made over 150 appearances in six years at Celtic as well as playing for WBA, Coventry and Bradford City and is the current goalkeeping coach at WBA. Matt is also the grandson of former Wales and Wimbledon boss Bobby Gould. He began his career with Hawke's Bay United, the New Zealand top-flight club where his father was player and manager, before moving on to Maycenvale United in the Central Premier League. After a return to Hawke's Bay, he headed to England and joined Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2014 after receiving international clearance but did not make a first-team appearance and instead later had a spell on loan with Bishop's Cleeve in the Southern League Division One South & West. He was signed by Livingston in August 2015 as back-up following successful trials. He subsequently joined Stenhousemuir on an emergency loan deal in November 2015 before linking up with us.
