Police started the livelier in this one knowing a win would see them safe from the threat of relegation and they applied some early pressure to the Exchange goal.
It took about 10 mins for us to settle and from then on their looked like being only one winner. There was some great crisp passing and movement on display all over the park.
Fraser Gow opened the scoring after 18 mins, prodding home a Chris Graham centre in off the post from close range. 1-0.
Graham then got on the score sheet himself after 34 mins. Munro chipped a corner to Rutherford on the edge of the box, he rolled it to Graham and he rifled and effort past the keeper into the far corner. 2-0.
Graham stretched the lead further 4 minutes later. Munro played him in 1 on 1 with the goalie and graham found the net well from an acute angle after rounding the keeper. 3-0.
On the stroke of half time Macleod pulled off a wonderful save after some good play down the Police left to keep it at 3-0.
The second half was more of an even contest and Police crept more and more into the game. They stepped up a gear mid way through the half and scored 3 goals in a 10 minute spell. The first coming from a mazy run down the right hand side, their second a fine long range effort and the 3rd a flicked header from a deep cross into the box.
From being in such a strong position Exchange were now staring relegation in the face. Cue a frantic last 10 minutes as we threw everything forward and came close on a number of occasions, while at the other end police could have scored a couple as they continued to attack.
With 4 minutes left on the clock Neil Holmes collected a through ball from Ross, stepped inside his marked and fired past the keeper into the far corner.
The Exchange goal survived a couple of late scares as the Police roared forward but Holmes' strike was to prove the winner and keeps our hopes of avoiding relegation alive.
We now face Muir in our final game knowing nothing other than a win will do, while police have games against Ardersier and Ace to come with a 1 point advantage over us as it stands.
Man of the match tonight was Chris Graham for his 2 goals and assist plus his tireless work rate for 90 minutes. Some tremendous displays to run him close tonight, impressive in every department tonight and great attitude shown to dig in and find a winner after being pegged back after an impressive second half showing from Police.
More of the same next week vs Muir!
