Experienced midfielder signs for The Admirals

Nelson Football Club are delighted to announce that Adnan Ahmed has rejoined the club, having previously starred for The Admirals during the 2014 promotion season.

The 31 year old midfielder has been training with Fildes' squad for the past few weeks and has today put pen to paper to re-sign for The Blues.

Burnley born Ahmed has enjoyed an illustrious football career, having started as an 11 year old school boy with Manchester United playing in the same team as the likes of Darren Fletcher and Keiran Richardson. He went on to sign an apprenticeship at Huddersfield Town before enjoying 7 years with Tranmere Rovers. Spells at Port Vale and Mansfield followed, as well as playing club football oversees in Hungary and Iran, before giving up on playing professional football to focus on his full time family business commitments.

With over 30 international caps playing for Pakistan national team, Adnan brings a wealth of experience and pedigree back to Nelson, much to the delight of Manager Paul Fildes.

"I'm delighted Adnan has put pen to paper, " said Fildes. "He's worked hard over the last 2 months in training with his fitness and has shown how much a return to Nelson Football Club mean to him. He's a qaulity player with a lot of experience. Experience is a key factor at any level and he's clearly a well liked character here by the board , players and supporters. I'll be looking to get him involved in the squad for tomorrows game."

Ahmed is the third signing of the new year for Nelson, following the arrivals of Wayne Morrison from Silsden and Martin Broderick from AFC Darwen.

The Admirals face a home tie to Bootle tomorrow in the NWCFL Premier Division with a 3pm kick off, however a 9am pitch inspection has been scheduled.
