For this weeks big interview, I sat down with George Melling. George gave me an insight to life before Nelson, pre-match superstitions and targets for next season.
How do you think the season has faired for Nelson?
I think it's been a lot harder than we thought after last season although I have played less than 15 games. I think we would all have to learn for next season which I'm sure we will.
How do you rate your individual season?
This season for me has been the worst of my career. I had an operation in the summer on my knee. I then came back and started to feel fitter, but I then got injured at Clitheroe on the same knee in the cup.
All I can do now is have a couple week off then start to get fitter and stronger for next season.
How does George Melling prepare for a match? Any superstitions?
I prepare for a match with either egg on toast or beans on toast. As for superstitions, the only one I have is that when I come out with the team, I jump over the white line onto the pitch.
Any highlights from your time at the Admirals?
The highlight for me has to be winning the league last season. It was good times and hopefully we can have them times again next season.
What is your background prior to Nelson?
Prior to joining Nelson, I have played for Kendal, Northwich, Bamber Bridge, Leek Town, Lancaster, Altrincham, Morecambe and Blackpool.
What targets have/will you be setting yourself for next season?
My personal target for next season is to have a good pre-season and be fit for the start of the season.
As for the team, we need to have a good start to the season and be in the running at the end of the season.
Any hobbies/interests outside of football? If so what are they?
Outside of football, I like to spend my time with my family and friends.
Who are your inspirations?
When I was younger, I used to admire Roy Keane. I particularly admired how he would demand respect on the pitch and would look out for his team mates.
Tell us something about you that we wouldn't know?
I played as a striker up until the age of 16 with a decent goal to game ratio.
