Nettleham travelled to Sheffield to face Steel City Wnderers last night. With Nettleham not having played for 3 weeks, it was bound to be a tough test.

The game started slow, with Nettleham having some good possession in midfield, but chances were minimum. Steel City set up to frustrate and stop Nettleham getting in behind with a high defensive line. City had the better chances early doors from set pieces being delivered into the Netts'penalty area.

Nettleham we keeping the ball well, but a couple of chances before half time from Lucy Farrow and Daisy Marsh didn’t test the City keeper. It was goalless going into half time.

Nettleham came out the better side in the second half. They pressured Steel City from the whistle and cracks started to show. In the 61st minute, a ball from Eden Pedersen set Abigail Ringrose on her way towards goal, shooting from 20 yards over the City keeper into the far top corner.

A second goal from the Netts came in the 80th minute. Pedersen provided an opportunity with smashing a free kick. The ball hit the underside of the bar and Imogen Burnley nodded it home.

Steel City failed to pull it back and the game ended 2-0 to the visitors.

Another 3 points on the road for Nettleham with a gritty performance and another clean sheet. That’s three wins from three and back to back league clean sheets in 2019 for the Netts.

Next up Nettleham face Grimsby Borough in the County Cup semi-finals.
