Player Departures

A few players move on

It has been quite a busy few weeks for New Brighton Villa Football Club with the departure of our long term manager, appointment of a new management team and preparation for the resumption of football. Manager Shaun Antrobus has been hard at work securing the commitment of our talented squad and the signing of players that can compliment this group of players as we begin our inaugural season in the newly formed North East Wales Premier Division. Unfortunately, as well as welcoming our new additions, we must also say goodbye to members of last season’s playing squad who have decided to move on.

We are sad to see our captain Ste Orsler, Rhys Peers and Sam Jones join Dave Roberts and Pete Morris at Brymbo. Ste has been a loyal servant to the club during his time here and has been first team captain since 2016. Ste has occupied a number of positions for us but had really come into his own in centre midfield since transitioning there a few years back. Rhys is one of the best strikers around when fit and showed what he could do in our last appearance scoring twice against Lex before lockdown. Hopefully he adapts well to the higher standard and scores the goals we know he can produce. Sam joined the club last November and added some much needed stability to our defence. He was a superb signing and regained his love for football at the club. We wish all three the best of luck as they test themselves at a higher level.

Another player who departs the Estadio de Mark Lopez is James Beck. James leaves us to join Cymru North side Buckley Town after three seasons with us. One of the best players in the league on his day, it was no surprise that he was highly coveted by a number of Tier 2 and 3 clubs this summer. James follows Sam Wainwright, who joined the Bucks in January, and will be hoping to adapt to the higher standard like Sam has in his short time at The Globe. James leaves us with our best wishes and we hope he can reproduce his magic at Tier 2.

Unfortunately we also say goodbye to Jack Leonard-Gill, Robbie Davies and Nick Manning. Jack, Robbie and Nick are all unable to commit next season due to a mixture of work and personal commitments. Jack produced a man of the match performance in our last game before lockdown against Lex and we were hoping it was the first of many to come. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated he won’t be able to play this year but we hope to see his gut busting runs once again in the future. Robbie rejoined us last season and appeared sporadically throughout the season when he could. A popular figure who gave everything on the pitch and a top lad to have at the club. Like Jack, we hope he will be able to wear a Yellow shirt again in the future. Manno, a former captain at the club, also rejoined us last summer and appeared when he could. His experience and quality was evident when he played and we are gutted his circumstances reduced his appearances for us. A superb footballer and one of the best in his position.

Ross Sumner and Chris Lucas have also both decided to leave the club this summer. Ross saw his appearances reduced last season due to other commitments but when available showed he can be one of the most deadly strikers around. Ross leaves to join his local club, newly formed North East Wales Championship side, Connah’s Quay Town. Lucas made a couple of appearances before our season was ended prematurely and scored a superb goal against Johnstown. It was great to see him back playing again and we wish them both all the best for the future.

We would like to thank all of our players for representing the club during the 2019/20 season and for their contributions whilst wearing the Yellow shirt. We wish you all the best wherever you may be playing and extend that you will always have a warm welcome back at the Estadio de Mark Lopez. We are excited to announce our squad with a host of new signings and a new leadership team in the next few days. #UTFY
