Newcastle came out on top of a close competitive game by the only goal. The result continues Castle's good start giving them 4 points out of 6, two clean sheets and takes them up to the giddy heightsof second in the League (OK it's only two games but it gives everyone a good feeling after last season). It could be classed as a tale of two skippers as Jonathon Margetts had a great chance from an early penalty but he tried a clever chip that came back off the bar whereas Town skipper was On hand to fire home from 12 yards from a good crossfield ball. Town thought they had taken the lead after 34 minutes when a shot from Joe Berks was turned into the net by Maxwell Chimenes but Castle's celebrations were cut short by an offside flag by the narrowest of margins. On the stroke of half time Town keeper made a tremendous save to keep the teams level from a header by Kyle Blake. The visitors went close when Nathan Jarman curled a shot onto the outside of the post. Tom Nicholson denied Maxwell Chimenes with his legs and Ryan McLean fired into the side netting and twice Dominic Kurasik was down smartly to deny the visitors as Town managed the end of the game well to take the points.
