NUWRFC look to double dip Sheffield Hallam

NUWRFC look to double dip Sheffield Hallam

Phoebe Lebrecht25 Feb 2012 - 11:53

Having been drawn against Hallam in the BUCS trophy semi-finals NUWRFC will face them twice in a row

Newcastle Uni's hard work and fitness showed on Wednesday 22nd when they defeated top of the Scottish 1A, Dundee. A 24-7 win doesn't quite justify the extent of NUWRFC's efforts. Having played Monday night away at Teesside the girls ignored their aching muscles and stepped up to play the Scottish elite.

The level of class NUWRFC demonstrated on Wednesday with impeccable turnovers, great support running and creative offloads was second to none. With two Hallam fixtures approaching, one for the League and one for the Semi-finals of the BUCS trophy cup, NUWRFC will be looking to exercise a similar strategy in order to load up the points under the posts.

Having played Hallam earlier in the season and secured a 38-0 win NUWRFC have an idea of what they are up against. However, complacency is not an option. The girls will be approaching Wednesday as a fresh fixture and will be looking to play "heads up" rugby - as who knows what Hallam might throw their way. With playing the same team twice in a short period, NUWRFC are anxious to keep Hallam on their toes. We don't want to pull all our rabbits out of the hat in the first game.

With the Stan Calvert cup in the middle of the two fixtures it allows NUWRFC to play against a different opposition and forget about the previous match before re-facing Hallam on the 7th.

It's another tough week ahead for the mighty NUWRFC who recently have been playing back-to-back fixtures. However, the strength of the pack combined with the feather-like footwork of the backs should secure NUWRFC three big victories and see them advance to the Finals of the BUCS trophy cup.

All in all, with two Polys to bash and only 8 days to do it - we need to load up on the protein, brave those ice baths and shout in their faces: "come at me braaa"!
