Newport took to the field for their third consecutive final and in the process were looking to stay un beaten in the Midlands for the fourth year and to finish junior rugby in style. As the game got under way it was clear Newport were in for a contest and the breakdown area started as a brutal contest with neither team gaining the advantage both winning equal ball however in the set piece Newport were by far the dominant pack and in particular the front row where Jordan Grass, Eliss Moysey and Charley Robinson were dominating their opposition . Newport were gaining plenty of ball but surprisingly there half back pairing were off key and some frantic and erratic play mixed in with some poor decision making meant Newport's high tempo game had become a stop start affair .However Tom Miles had become an attacking threat from the lineout winning constant ball on Newport's throw and as proved all afternoon a thorn in the side for the opposition by stealing theirs . Ten minutes had passed when suddenly Newport put a passage of play together resulting in winger Declan Hadley finishing with determination and style for the first try with the conversion kicked for the extras . This should have settled Newport however Sutton Coldfield were the next to appear on the scoreboard when their winger finished in the corner after some sloppy play by Newport in their 22 which their opponents took advantage of . A stern talk under the post from Newport's captain seemed to have done the trick after the restart because from that moment on Newport took control and started to play with the shape and direction that had being missing in the early exchanges , a platform between the scrum half and Newport's quick athletic pack were now making in roads moving the ball with precision close in and carrying much stronger and with much more desire and now the ball was being recycled quicker and metres into the opponents half were being gained, at last Newport were on the front foot gaps were now starting to appear as Sutton's defence was being broken Newport were beginning to click and now the space was opening up for Newport's talented backline which has served them so well over the years and with their impressive running game Sutton had no answers , tries followed quickly and in a spell before half time with winger Declan Hadley and centre Ricky Bailey creating and finishing some fine passages of plays with the rest of their backs Newport took a 31-5 lead into the break .
Second half Newport turned into a strong wind and now were tested in defence with Sutton kicking for territory and pinning Newport back in their 22 .Now it was time for Newport to show Sutton why they are so hard to beat ,not only are Newport one of the best teams attacking wise but their defence and their structures which have served them so well in the past once again stood firm under pressure .Time for changes as Newport had battled so hard to keep the opposition out ,Newport's substitutes gave them a sharpness and intensity that lifted the team just at the wright moment and now with the fresh legs Newport seemed quicker ,faster to the breakdown collision area and were winning ball and now playing on the front foot again captain Connor Adams had moved from scrum half to fly half and now relished the chance to open Sutton up at ease with his impressive skills , the backline was now functioning at its near best and with the partnership of Connor and the outstanding man of the match Ricky Bailey attacking the space with his explosive running Sutton were left simply chasing shadows , tries were added with Ricky finishing with four Declan Hadley whom had being substituted with an impressive three .Not to be outdone by the backline Harry Cross stormed to the try line leaving a trail of would be tacklers behind him with his powerful run and fellow forward Joe Holland finished off some good work which involved all the pack with a drive to the line , in fact the hard work of all the pack and in particular Eliot Jeffries and Mike Adams had kept Newport in control for the majority of the afternoon . To Sutton's credit they battled hard and managed to score a consolation try late on this however did not dampen Newport as the end neared and the final whistle blew Newport's players all embraced one another in the centre of the pitch as the realisation at what they had just achieved winning a third Consecutive North Midlands cup and cue the celebrations that deservedly followed .
Congratulations to all it has been a magnificent effort over the years by all of the squad involved in which the coaches parents and the club are very proud of and as the players have said we are friends but it feels as though we are family a very special bond amongst them all .
