2nd match of the season for Newquay 1st team and what can I say… we were back to ourselves, working for one another to come out on top with a 2-1 win against Westberries.

Coming off the back of a draw the week before, Newquay knew they had to pull their socks up and work hard to prove themselves against Westberries; a newly relegated premiership 1 team. Safe to say Newquay made themselves known from the first whistle with the majority of possession throughout and some near misses putting pressure on Westberries.

The first goal came from a fantastic assist, Kat Redd made the ball fly from Newquay’s defensive half straight into Westberries danger zone. Zoe Waitz attempted to reach for the ball but missed, the keeper decided to clear the ball however passed it back into Zoe’s path, Newquay capitalised with a lob over the keeper into the back corner of the goal.

After half time Wesberries came out with force and managed to equalise. However, Newquay were not willing to accept this and managed to secure a penalty corner. Lora Millward injected the ball beautifully for Rosie Taylor-Jones to take a straight strike from the top of the D, with a fantastic save from Westberries keeper. Dreya Bennett came in for the rebound scoring the second goal for Newquay.

Our player of the match went to Olivia Harvey who made some outstanding tackles, interceptions and passes leading to Newquay having some great opportunities.
