With a delayed kick off Newton started a little sluggish as they found themselves down 3 points after an early penalty. This was then compounded with a try to Capenhurst. The conversation was unsuccessful meaning Newton were 8 nil down against a side who had actually only started the game with 14 men.
Newton finally got themselves back in to the game by scoring a converted try with good line running and offloads to get the score to 8-7 to the visitors.
The game then got real messy with Newton conceding far to many penalties with a yellow card following. Then with Capenhurst lack of players and front row replacements meaning Newton had to take a player off so numbers matched, made the game lose its fluidity.
This continued to happen throughout the game throwing plans off and Newton becoming disorganised. Capenhurst took advantage and scored again taking the lead out further.
Changes had to be made at half time for Newton and they certainly worked. Straight from the kick off Newton scored probably the best try we have seen in a long time. Multiple off loads, slick passing and plenty of power and pace saw at least 13 of the 14 players touch the ball before the try was scored. This put Newton 1 point in arears.
The game went scrappy once more unfortunately with uncontested scrums and players having to be removed and added constantly. Newton however managed to score again with strong running through the middle to take a 6 point lead.
After Newton's latest try Capenhurst seemed to be in the Newton's half for the rest of the game scoring a try to trail by 1 point with around 10 minutes left.
Then Newton imploded and did everything they could to lose the game, giving away at least 4 kickable penalties, luckily for Newton none of the attempts were successful. With the final attempt hitting the post Newton were able to collect the rebound and could clear their lines with the final kick of the game.
Thank you to Capenhurst for making the trip and good luck for the year.
