Newton Wonder - September Report (2016)

As Autumn arrives the cricket season draws to a close; and with the league and local friendly matches completed there is just time for one last bit of cricket. To finish the season off the team are going on a cricket tour (the first for many years), to a country famous for its cricket – France! We head to Brittany to take on two local teams. It should be a great way to finish the season off with some good spirited cricket and plenty of wine and cheese.

Looking back over the season it has been a mixed bag of results with the wide divisions in the D division league all so evident in the final league positions. However Newton St Cyres cricket team can hold its head up high, claiming 4 wins from the 15 matches played, finishing above both South Brent and Buckland Monachrome, just slightly adrift of Stokeinteignhead and the team has continued to demonstrate its depth in bowling throughout the season.

The last 3 league matches saw the weather have the better of it, with 2 matches abandoned and the other a loss to 3rd place team Yelverton (although yet again Newton bowled them all out within the 45 overs).

So for now it’s the end of the outdoor cricket season and time to plan for next year. So if you would like to get involved or maybe fancy coming along to a few indoor nets at the University then get in contact. Nets are likely to start in January but please contact me for more information – paulmccutchion@hotmail.com
