On a Saturday 17th of August we hosted Belvedere FC in the first team’s 5th friendly in preparation for the upcoming Sevenoaks & District Premier Division 2019/20 season that’s scheduled to kick off on Saturday 7th of September.
After last weekend’s win in a local derby against Westerham where we see an impressive 2nd half performance the squad aimed to keep up the momentum and keep raising the levels. This is exactly what the team did putting in an excellent all round performance for 90 minutes against a Kent county club who secured promotion last season to Division 1. Nomads still had several key players missing but had a strong squad of 15 available. The whole squad performed well showing improvement in the areas we have addressed need a little work. Goalkeeper Lee Clark played like a sweeper quickly off his line anticipating the play very well and snuffed out any sight of Belvedere getting a chance. The back four kept a tight line communicating with each other throughout, our midfield put in a shift with key centre midfielder Jamie Brazenell covering more ground on the pitch than any other player for both teams. We urged before the game to start the play from the back as much as we could and we did that well with our fullbacks Levi Caruana and Reece Donohoe showing there confidence to want the ball at there feet deep within our half. This resulted in our wingers linking up numerous times from our play as we see the the ball out wide for good spells which stretched our opposition and added further pressure to a team that looked out of sorts from the dominating control of the game the Nomads first team had orchestrated. The club’s leading all time goalscorer Kieron Bence played a lone striker role. The 25 year old playing his 4th season at the club has been in form all pre season carrying on from his golden boot season in the last campaign. He was a threat all game with the Belvedere centre backs struggling to contain the pace and low gravity style of play from the striker. The game ended 4-0 in favour of the home side. Goal scorers on the day was Kieron Bence scoring the only goal of the first half. The 3 goals put past the visitors in the second was scored by Nicky Foad, Kane Walker & David Barrington who started the game as a sub coming off the bench 65 minutes into the match.
