15 Try's Away from Home

Own traveled away to Kempston this week following last weeks impressive win at home to Deepings.
With Own playing 3 and winning 3 they wanted to keep the momentum rolling and took a strong side away.
Bagby came back in the front way and was joined with Perkins and Oakey, Oakey getting his first league start of this season. The second row stayed the same with Gould and Conor Frost. Back row this week of Harvey Hughes, Ben Pocklington and 'Baby Rhino' Jones at 8.
9 and 10 partnership stayed the same of Cairns and Captain Kerr, a return for Liggins in at 12 and Louis James at 13. Rust joined Barrie on the wings this week and Thatcher stayed at 15. A Very strong bench joined the lads - G Briddon returned to the side after getting knocked out by a rugby ball 4 weeks back... Liam Kerr, Stainton and Ray also joined the boys for the away trip.

The game was underway and it didn't take long for Own to get the first points on the board. At the first scrum Kempston seemed to get the upper hand with their heavy pack but at the second scrum the Mens Own pack showed they meant business and stole the ball against the head. Rust came off his wing and looped round the back Kerr fed Rust who passed wide to James, James stepped inside 2 and outside another to dive over the line to get his first of the game. Converted Rust. 7-0

It didn't take long for Own to add more points when Kempston kicked the ball deep down field and into the hands of the inform Thatcher, Thatcher ran it back hard and fast and slipped through the chasing line of Kempston, Thatcher fed the ball to James outside who then stepped the home sides 15 to run away under the sticks for his second of the afternoon. Converted Rust. 14-0

Own Kept the pressure building and didn't let off. Kerr put a perfectly weighted kick along the floor towards the try line, a solid kick chase from own gave the Kempston player no where to run, after taking the ball back over his own line his was brought down to the floor giving Own the 5 meter scrum. Mens own pack still heavily on top smashed the Kempston scrum back, quick hands down the line gave James the chance to slide through again for his 3rd try of the game in the first 15 Minutes. Conversion missed 19-0

Own had their tails up and it was looking to be long day for the home side. The next try came for Barrie, Owns forwards continued to apply the pressure at the scrum driving them back wards every time, the ball spilled out through the home sides legs. Pocklington smashed the 10 backwards and Kerr latched over the ball and stole it well ripping it back to our side. The backs slung it wide to Barrie who showed his pass to sprint away down the line the score. Converted Rust. 26-0

Thatcher was next to get his name on the score sheet and I wrote down what happened this time....
Own showed that they could also dominate the line out as well as the scrum a well worked bit of play from the line out gave the backs plenty of time and to set up a move to split the Kempston midfield, Liggins slid threw the defensive and threw a Sonny Bill Williams off load to rust to sprint away drawing the oncoming 15 who then spun the ball back inside to the supporting Thatcher who ran away under the posts. (You're welcome JT) Converted Rust. 33-0

The next Try came straight from the kick off. Own secured the ball well in the forwards who recycled it quickly. Kerr saw a gap on the blind side and exploited it well, Cairns fed Kerr who looped round and slid through the gap with Rust on his outside Kerr threw a dummy pass sending the Kempston winger for a hot dog, with just the 15 to beat Kerr switched with Rust giving him an easy run in to line. Converted Rust. 40-0

The last Try of the half went to Louis James collecting his fourth. Another dominating scrum for Own gave the backs clean and quick ball the back line capitalized on this and with a very impressive pass from Kerr at 10 fed James who ran the line of the game that left him untouched through the centers stepping the full back to go under the posts. Converted Rust. 47-0 Half Time.

With all Subs on at half time it took a little bit of time for Own to find the same rhythm they finished the first half with. Kempston came out the blocks well and tested the Mens own defensive line, every Own player stepped up to the mark and held their own against the big pack of Kempston.
Thatcher was to get the first points of the second half. Own won another scrum against the head, Kerr missed passed out the James who ran on the outside of his opposite man drawing in the winger he got the pass away to Barrie to open up down the wing, the covering defense of the Kempston 15 was enough to stop Barrie but an offload to the supporting Thatcher was too much giving him plenty of time to jog away under the posts. Converted Rust. 54-0

Own seemed to wake up again and spring into life after that try, Conor Frost was next on the score card getting the first try for the forwards after a very hard line from Rust coming off his wing. Kempston gave away a penalty for not releasing, Ray went for the quick tap and fed the ball straight to Kerr who threw a miss pass to the big second row waiting wide to go over the line taking 2 defenders with him. Conversion missed. 59-0

It was the forwards turn again to score but this time it was a chance for Oakey to score on his return. With some good phase play from the backs getting the team in good position the forwards were loaded up, good carries for Liam Kerr and Gould put own just short of the line, Oakey picked the ball up from the base of the ruck and dived over the line to get his first of the season. Conversion missed. 64-0

Another quick try was to come after Louis James stole the ball on Owns 22 meter line. The ball was fed to Rust who popped the ball inside to Callum Kerr who stepped 4 defenders and then moved the ball to Liam Kerr, he trundled past one defender and threw the ball over the top of the next to Liggins who strolled over the line to dot down. Converted Rust. 71-0

Time for Louis James to get his 5th of the match. Another turn over in the scrum against the head left the Kempston back line all over the place giving the backs plenty of time to get James the ball on the outside who stepped back inside and ran clean through under the sticks. Converted Rust. 78-0

Own scored in straight away from the kick off giving Thatcher his third of the game, from the kick the ball fell to Liam Kerr who fed it straight to Callum Kerr, who spotted a whole in the kick chase from Kempston Kerr stepped the entire Kempston pack and covering defenders and started to burn away but chasing Kempston players had the angle on him and started to close in. Thatcher on the support line again gave an easy option for Kerr to spin the ball back inside giving Thatcher the chance to sprint away and under the posts. Converted Rust. 85-0

With Own wanting to hit the 100 point mark they pilled on the pressure, Kerr slotted the ball through again and the center partnership of Liggins and James chased through. Kempston couldn't find away out and started playing hot potato on their try line, liggins found himself in the right place at the right time and they very kindly passed him the ball on the line for him to dot down for his second. Conversion missed. 90-0

Last try of the game fell to Jonny Rust, Kempston tried to switch the play and kick the ball to the otherside side of the pitch Rust picked the ball out the air and sprant away from the kempston back line, with a small step inside he left the covering Kempston player for dead and ran away to the line. Converted Rust. 97-0 Full time.

An amazing away win for Own making it 4 from 4 this season in the League and Cup.
Own travel away to Harbury next week in the 3rd Round of the RFU Junior Vase, hopefully we can get the same strong support we had at Kempston in next weeks fixture. Many thanks to all that came and watched this week.
