North Leigh 6 – 1 Clevedon Town

The Millers ran riot in the first half rattling in four goals even though three regular first teamers were out due to suspension. A lone reply by Clevedon midway through the second half followed by two more late goals by North Leigh sealed a comprehensive win for the home side.

Leigh started brightly and after less than a minute a through ball to striker Conor Ingram saw him race down the left channel and shoot narrowly wide of the far post. Clevedon's first serious attack came on 9 minutes as a good build up saw striker Louis Keane shoot wide from 12 yards. A few minutes later Clevedon's Kyle Thomas wasted a free kick in a dangerous position as he blasted the kick high and wide. Leigh were now bossing the play and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring on 19 minutes. They were awarded a free kick wide right midway in the Clevedon half which Stuart Hole flighted to the far post for centreback Zak Westlake to get in front of his marker and score with a diving header that flashed past keeper Kane Mannings.

On 24 minutes Jon Else was inches wide with a shot as a combined Ingram, Jamie Cook, Else attack saw his left foot shot flash past the wrong side of a post. However 5 minutes later he was on the score sheet as a Leigh corner was half cleared by the Clevedon defence unluckily the clearance found Else on the edge of the box. He hammered a left foot shot that keeper Mannings couldn't hold and as he made a second attempt to grab it, it rolled over the line.

With Leigh now firmly in control both Michael Hopkins and Aaron Woodley made excellent surging runs down the left that the Clevedon defence just managed to scrap away, but on 37 minutes a ball through the middle of their defence saw Else clear and as the keeper came out to close him down, he clipped the ball past him from 8 yards. Goal number four was a penalty scored by Jamie Cook on 43 minutes after Ingram was brought down by Mannings in the box.

In the second half Leigh continued to dominate play but just couldn't find the net as the final ball let them down on numerous occasions. Callum McNish (back from his 3 match suspension), Hopkins and Woodley all went close as did a Hole free kick that skimmed across the goal.

On 69 minutes Adam Buckley scored Clevedon's goal after slight confusion in the Leigh defence as keeper Matt Bulman came out to collect a lofted kick out of the Clevedon defence, Andy Caton cleared with a header only to see it returned with power by Buckley as he shot from distance into an unguarded net.

Despite this setback Leigh continued to dominate play and two good strikes both right foot shots from 8 yards, late on by Woodley on 86 minutes and McNish on 90 minutes wrapped up Leigh's biggest win of the season.
