The Millers return to league action tomorrow at Broadwater Stadium to face Berkhamsted FC in match week 20 of the BetVictor Southern League.
It will be only the second time the West Oxfordshire has ever played at Berkhamsted’s ground and it is a reverse fixture of 2019/20 season opener.
Berkhamsted, who narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season finishing in 6th place, are competing in the Southern League for only the 2nd year in their history. But despite that, they have made a clear statement on their campaign objective’s sitting in 2nd place with a league-high 49 goals scored and +32 goal difference after only 20 games.
Form
Tuesday night’s Oxfordshire Senior Cup victory against Clanfield will certainly have boosted confidence in the side amidst mixed results but collectively the squad look to be going from strength to strength. The return from injury for club captain Ben Brown and a return to the pitch for assistant manager Michael Alexis is also a big bonus for Craig Dore who is confident his team can compete against the best.
The season opener showed how well organised Berkhamsted’s side were and they have since gone from strength to strength losing only 4 out of 20 league games. But recent weeks have definitely seen the Comrades momentum stall picking up only 6 points from their last 15 including losses against Yaxley, Welwyn Garden City and strugglers Kempston Rovers.
Last Time We Met
North Leigh 1 - 2 Berkhamsted, Saturday 17th August 2019
The Millers welcomed Berkhamsted to Eynsham Park for the hotly anticipated season opener but after a fantastic performance, it wasn’t the result we would have wanted.
The very new squad still had a lot of teething errors to work through but going forwards the Millers looked very strong and would have come out with the win if not for the incredible Xavier Comas Leon in goal.
George Seacole got his goal scoring tally underway right from day 1 of the season but two first-half goals from Lewis Toomey and Jonathon Lacey was enough to secure all three points.
Did You Know?
Today’s hosts Berkhamsted FC were founded in January 2009 by a supporters group following the folding of Berkhamsted Town FC due to outstanding finances. The previous club’s history could be dated back as far as 1895 and they were one of the founding members of the Herts County League.
