The Millers get set for a third straight league match on the road as we make the longest trip of the season to face Peterborough-based Yaxley in game week 22 of the BetVictor Southern League.
Yaxley, who gained promotion to step 4 football for the first time in 2018, finished a very respectable 11th and had several impressive results including a 7-5 win over Corby Town in the FA Cup.
Form
Saturday’s emphatic win away to Bedford Town has certainly sparked new life into the team who keep their dreams of a playoff finish alive. Currently sitting 11th, the Millers do have a couple of games in hand but a congested February with 8 games in total could see injury and fatigue become an issue. But 4 wins from the last 6 competitive fixtures will be a boost to Craig especially with how well the new signings of Adam North and Lewis Gabbidon performed at the Eyrie. And let’s not forget about in-form striker Henry Landers who has now scored 11 goals and 6 assists in the 14 games since his return.
Hosts Yaxley will be coming into the contest feeling very confident after 4 league wins on the bounce against St Neots, Barton Rovers, Bedford and Kempston Rovers. The string of wins have put them right back into the mid-table mix now sitting in 8th place. A small cause for concern for the Cuckoos though is they have only kept a single clean sheet since the start of December.
Last Time We Met
North Leigh 1 - 1 Yaxley, Tuesday 3rd December 2019
The Millers were held to their first draw at Eynsham Park earlier this season in the reverse fixture against Yaxley in December.
Having postponed the fixture multiple times dure to cup clashes and poor weather, the Tuesday night date was not ideal for the long travel and Yaxley’s players did not make it to the ground until 10 ins before kick off.
That didn’t stop them from giving everything they had and the Millers required a 2nd half equaliser from Henry Landers to pick up the single point.
Did You Know?
In the 1980's Yaxley FC experienced multiple name changes due to sponsorship deals 1st becoming Coalite Yaxley in 1986 and then Clarksteel Yaxley in 1990. Unfortunately for the Cuckoo's, the new names didn't bring with it any good fortune as they were expelled from the Eastern Counties League as their Middleton Road ground did not meet the league's requirements. Entering bank into the Huntingdonshire League in 1993 they became just Yaxley FC once more.
