NHTCC Pre Season Blog

James Fearnley12 Apr 2016 - 11:30

Just a few days left to the 2016 season and preparations are all but completed at Hedgetop.

After securing promotion last season the first team will start their first season in the Spenser Wilson Halifax Cricket League Premier Division since 2012. The second team who didn't fare so well will be plying their trade in the Roy Smith 1st Division under the stewardship of new captain Daniel Phipps.

Unfortunately in a decision not taken lightly the committee have decided not to have a team playing on a Sunday afternoon this season. This is down to a number of factors but hopefully we will be able to get the Sundays back up and running in 2017.

Outdoor nets have now started every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the club, following on from a successful and well supported winter indoors at Holmfield Mills.

Senior ranks have been strengthened by new recruits, The Brothers Grim, George Ashton and the returning Olly Hemingway from Luddenden Foot and the return of Big Tom Clee after his sabbatical in the Bradford League at Woodlands. Jordan Byrnes is returning after a couple of seasons out with a serious knee injury. Matthew Smith also returns to the fold this summer after spending last summer in Canada.

We have unfortunately lost both Sam and Max Gardner to Lightcliffe over the winter. We would like to thank Sam for his efforts at the club over the years and hopefully he will return to the club in the future.

Off the field our grounds man Tom Moore, along with his trusted side kick Richard Smith have been working hard against the weather to prepare the ground for the season. This coupled with a working party last weekend have got the ground looking resplendent and ready for the season. James Fearnley has worked hard all winter along with a few others to completely revamp the clubs interior which is now looking in excellent condition.

Finally a huge congratulations to club member Luke Cole who in a week where he made his Aviva Premiership debut for Gloucester Rugby he also bought his very own bat for the first time ever. Well done on both fronts Luke.

We are hoping to post match previews/reports, player profiles amongst other great features throughout the summer.

Keep your eyes peeled for the first player profile coming soon when we catch up with first team captain Chris Conroy to get his thoughts on all things cricket.
