North Ribblesdale won with a last second penalty at local rivals Keighley, in a top of the table clash. The home side came out of the blocks the fastest and Cougars player Taylor Prell stormed over for a try, converted by the prolific Alex Brown, another Brown penalty saw the hosts surge into a ten point lead.
But this Ribblesdale side know how to dig deep and responded with a well worked try from Ralph Wellock converted by Tom Davidson. Ribb seemed to be slightly in the ascendency and after a kick for the corner, a well driven maul resulted in a try for the ever present John Padley and a Ribb lead of 12 -10.
Ribb then enjoyed their best spell and on the stroke of half-time the burly Ryan Sumner proved unstoppable from close range for another converted score to give an interval score of 19 -13 to Ribb.
This Keighley side had only lost once at home in four seasons and Ribb knew that there was still plenty of work to do. The second half was a very tight affair with Keighley edging the scrums but Ribbs lineout with the pinpoint throwing of Matthew Speres being imperious. With the clock running down home out half Alex Brown dropped what looked like a match winning goal to put Keighley in front 23 - 22. But this Ribblesdale side doesnt know what its like to lose, having now gone over a calander year undefeated and with a penalty awarded in the last second Coach Tom Davidson stepped up and slotted the winning kick from the half way line to send the vast collective of supporters from Ribb into dreamland.
This was an excellent showpiece of all that is good in local sport and will be a game to be remembered by those privileged to have watched it. Ribb next have a home game against old foes Leodiensians this week when they will be looking to cement their place at the top of the table.
So come on down and get behind this progressive local club.
