Lewis started playing rugby at the age of 5 at Mold Rugby Club. Always an out and out Fly Half he worked his way through the age grades at Mold and represented RGC from U12 to U18. Lewis was part of the first intake of players in the RGC Academy and attended Rydal Penrhos School. At U18 Lewis had the honour of being selected in the 52 man Wales training squad.
