Over many years Northwich Rugby Club members have engaged with the community.

It has been a core principle of NRUFC.

Through local engagement our players harness relationships with local businesses and charities, our members and club have been able to benefit from a positive public image and exposure to a strong culture of responsibility being able to develop a keen sense of their role in society

The headline from the Northwich Guardian said it all “Day of a Lifetime” when Mid-Cheshire College RUFC (Northwich RUFC) stole the show at the Northwich Carnival, with a giant sized caterpillar.

Twenty two members made up the caterpillar all wearing bowler hats and wellies.

The rugby players were highlighting awareness of Cystic Fibrosis Research but as they were preparing at top of town in the Lion & Railway public-house, the Carnival organising committee noticed the club had not officially entered the procession.

They were then given permission to tag-on at the end.

Well that was not going to happen!

As the procession commenced the rugby players were still taking on liquid refreshment (as it was a hot day and being true sportsmen were well aware of hydration).

By the time the procession had reached Meadow street the caterpillar had weaved it’s way in front of the first float, then entered the gates of Verdin Park in first spot heading straight to the beer tent.

Following further refreshment the club decided to enter the Tug of War competition against some serious opposition of young farmers and official teams.

The rugby players lost their first five pulls, finally winning one only to be disqualified for using more members than allowed.
