Historically Northwich have been slow starters to a new season, but when the released fixture list was published there was an air of expectation with three home games in the opening month. Knowing the quality of this league, it will undoubtedly be a season where home performances will be vital for ambitions, it’s not quite gone to plan so far, but we are close.
Northwich welcome Wirral
Postie - “They are dangerous when they move the ball into the wide channels – they’ve got some decent backs who can really attack – and it’s backed up with a solid scrum which gives them a platform” - “So we will have to make sure we’re on the money.”
Wirral finished in 9th position last season and it’s fair to say they have not had the best of starts this term. As a team Wirral await some of their more experienced players to be available following recovery from injury, before they can expect to make an impact in this league.
However, their fortunes turned at home last week as they overcome Burnage 29-22, earning a 5 pointer with the try bonus point.
Northwich in 7th, Wirral two points behind in 8th.
Northwich 2nd visit Macclesfield 3’s
Another great performance from Northwich last week where forward domination set the bench-mark allowing the backs free-rein to run in tries. But they need to break this habit of allowing opposition teams to go ahead.
It’s a top of the table clash between two teams currently on top form, Macc maybe with a slight advantage being on home soil and recording 135 points in their last two games, although conceding 63 which gives Northwich optimism.
Northwich 3rd host Moore 2nd
Yet another crazy week of conceded league fixtures, last week 3 teams granted home walkovers, one being our opposition Moore.
Having lost their only fixture on the opening game of the season Moore will be eager to kick start their campaign, but Northwich completed a double against them last season. Northwich sitting proudly top of the division will be in no mood to relax.
Following a derby victory captain Chris Blower said, "We perhaps did not have the penetration through the centre of the pitch to punish Park further, while a couple of errors resulted in a loss of momentum – we will work on it".
