On Saturday Norwich United compete in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the first time in our 118 year history. A historic match for the club and the furthest any Norfolk club of similar level has reached in the FA Cup this year. To get to this stage of the famous cup competition The Planters have beaten Long Buckby AFC, Newmarket Town, Bury Town and Mildenhall Town and now face Stamford AFC away on Saturday 2nd October, hoping to repeat the trick of beating higher level oppostion away from home as they did at Bury Town in September.

If Norwich United are victorious in this upcoming match the 4th Qualifying Round would open up the opportnity of playing a team from anywhere up to National League level. That could mean Norwich United line up against heavyweights such as Notts County, Wrexham or Grimsby (though the draw is regionalised to 'north' and 'south'). While we must not get ahead of ourselves, Planters supporters can afford to dream as two more FA Cup wins could open up unbelievable, once in a lifetime ties such as Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday or even a short trip to Ipswich Town!

Stamford AFC will make tough opposition, playing in the Northern Premier League Division 1 - Midlands which is Step 4, a level above the Thurlow Nunn Premier in the pyramid. Known as The Daniels, after Daniel Lambert, often cited as England's heaviest ever man, a deceased Stamford resident, Stamford AFC beat National League North side AFC Telford in the previous round.

Technical Director Toby Nickerson said ahead of this unprecedented FA Cup tie: "Saturday brings a massive opportunity for Norwich United Football Club and a tough challenge against a top side in Stamford AFC. It's something we didn't really expect or plan for, to win four FA Cup games and become history makers at the football club. At such an early stage in the season, it's an absolute bonus and we are looking forward to Saturday, when we will try to create even more history and get a step closer to the First Round Proper. We know that this is an opportunity for the football club to bring in much required income to drive us forward and we look forward to the challenge ahead against Stamford."
