FA TROPHY MATCH REPORT: NUNEATON 1-0 CARLTON TOWN

Owen Jephcote8 Oct 2023 - 12:00

Stenson’s stoppage time strike

Nuneaton were looking for retribution this weekend as they welcomed Carlton Town back to the FCS Stadium. In the previous encounter between the two sides, The Millers successfully defeated the Boro knocking them out of the FA Cup.

In the opening ten minutes, Boro were on top with Kane Richards, Owen Oseni and Leroy LITA all linking up well to create chances. The game was stopped for a total of ten minutes after Kyle Storer took an elbow to the face from Alex Hardwick while contesting for a header. After the physio team managed to stop the bleeding, Storer was able to continue to play for the rest of the game.

A big save from Felix Annan kept the game level on the half an hour mark after a shot from Lita at point blank range.

Half Time: 0-0

The home side continued where they left off after the break with more efforts bombarding Annan in the Millers goal. The visiting defence were called into action three times in quick succession after a corner lead to three chances being blocked on the line for the Boro.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, the visitors had what was probably their best chance of the game smashing an effort off the cross bar.

Just a few minutes into added time, substitute Matt Stenson stepped up to curl an effort into the top right corner after turning his defender to win the game.
