The Boro fought admirably in a 5-0 loss to Coventry City XI in Nuneaton's penultimate pre-season friendly in preparation for the new season.

First half goals from Josh Reid, Jack Burroughs with Fabio Tavares contributing a brace and Jay McGrath getting in on the action from the bench in the second half gave the Sky Blues a commanding 5-0 win at Liberty Way.

The game started in close fashion with both teams battling for control of the game. Deadlock was almost broke when Tavares raced through one on one with Breeden, however he scuffed his shot resulting in a goal kick. Tavares found himself with another golden opportunity to put the young guns ahead with his attempted chip but it was well saved by Breeden.

The pressure continued from the young Sky Blues when Burroughs intercepted a Breeden pass and then played the ball across to Marco Rus who fired the ball over an empty net.

Half Time: 0-2

Coventry were the ones who started the half with their tails wagging with the visitors adding a third to their tally, it was Jay McGrath who rose the highest from a corner to steer a powerful header into the top left corner.

Fabio Tavares redeemed himself after his earlier missed chances when he reacted the quickest to tap home a loose ball after a smart save from Breeden.

Tavares grabbed his second of the night in the 65th minute as a ball squared from the right found its way to the number 9 who smartly smashed the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 5 for the Sky Blues.

However, Boro never gave up and battled till the end with the captain Carl Baker who received the ball on the right with the winger smartly gaining himself a yard of space and releasing a powerful effort which was well matched by Tyler.

Overall, it was a tough test in what was young energetic side which proved a good workout for the Boro who now look ahead to Basford United on Saturday in their final pre-season fixture which takes place at Liberty Way (Kick off 3pm).
