STATEMENT FROM THE GAFFA

STATEMENT FROM THE GAFFA

Matt Davenport7 Jan 2024 - 09:30

A message to the fans from Jimmy Ginnelly.

Jimmy Ginnelly (The Gaffa) here signing off for the sake of the club. If I’m being told the truth, the landlord will only discuss opening the ground back up if I’m not involved and I’ve never even met the man!

I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Nuneaton Borough Football Club for their loyal support throughout my 5 glorious years at Liberty Way.
I’d like to think that I’ve brought some good times in those 5 years and I’d like to think that I’ve brought some good players to the club and some good crowds to give the club its buzz back.

I’d like to thank the sponsors and businesses for backing me on the journey.
Your backing plays a massive part in the running of the team. Your sponsorship money more than covers the playing staff and allows us, the management team, to put a good team together for our superb fan base, who by the way have been fantastic to play in-front of. They sang their hearts out for my team.

I’d like to think I personally brought in over £700,000 plus in sponsorship over my 5 years and always got myself sponsored by Kash at Crown Skip Management to cover my expenses so the club never had to find my wages or expenses. So the club basically had all of my hard hours work for free.

I’d also like to say I was behind the upturn in the bar takings. When I started the clubhouse was turning over £70,000 a year in wet sales. Were now on par to turn over £350,000, so that’s obviously going in the right direction,

Together, we put a brand new junior section together with 30-ish teams now playing for that Nuneaton Borough fc Badge.

We also firmly put the women’s section on the map thanks to Danny Cole.
Then we finished off by setting up our own academy in partnership with CP Academy, which is thriving and will only go from strength to strength over the next few seasons. Hopefully, this will be our production line into the first team.
So all in all, I’d like to think my blood, sweat and tears and health problems have not all been for nothing.

I’d like to think that all of the money and work on the battered building, when I first got there, is now something that we can hire out for functions and is a much sort after venue to use for any sort of gig.

Can I finish off by saying a massive thank you to my fantastic staff and players who, last season, took the club into them play offs in front of 5000 plus supporters. That size of crowd will never be beaten at Liberty Way in my opinion.

My players are my main thank you. They’ve been brilliant to work with. It takes years to get your changing rooms in a good strong position and with this group of players I’m sure I’d have got them into the playoffs for what you fantastic supporters deserve.

I hope the new board keeps this group of players and staff together and try and get this team into them playoffs again.

You never know one day the new board might invite me back for an interview for the manager’s job in the future! Ha ha!

Good luck to everyone involved with the future of my home town club.
JG.
