Saturday 22nd February, 2020;

Nuneaton suffered a 3-2 defeat away at Redditch United despite taking the lead and dominating the first-half.

Isaiah Osbourne netted his first Boro goal in the first-half as Boro dominated large periods. However, a Romario Martin double and a Boubakar Traore goal helped Redditch pick up their first win for 25 games.

Boro started the game on the front foot and nearly took the lead after just two minutes. After a good piece of play in the middle of the park, Riccardo Calder forced Kieran Boucher into a smart save.

Moments later and Boro came close again. This time it was Luke Benbow who was denied by the goalkeeper, After Isaiah Osbourne and Ryan Edmunds were involved in a good passage of play, the ball eventually fell to Benbow before Boucher’s diving save kept the scoreline level.

Boucher, who was set to be busy at the Trico Stadium, came to Redditch’s rescue again. A corner from the right-hand side was flicked on by Miles Addison for Joel Kettle to tap goalwards. However, Boucher was there again to deny the defender his 12th goal of the season.

The deadlock was broken after 23 minutes when Osbourne neatly beat Boucher after Edmunds laid the ball on a plate for him.

Playing as a left wing-back, Sharpe went inches away from netting his second goal in four away games when his half-volley was a whisker away from hitting the back of the net.

After the interval, there were chances for both sides immediately after each other. Randane Larmond, who was brought on at half-time for Redditch, fired a low effort at Breeden. From the clearance, Edmunds struck the near post with a fierce right-footed effort.

Then the drama unfolded. Against the run of play, Redditch found themselves level through Romario Martin. Taimoor Hussain was allowed to break into the Boro box before cutting back for the former Boro man to fire low past Breeden.

Within minutes, the hosts took the lead through another Boro man, Boubakar Traore. Martin surged towards the Boro box before laying the ball off for the left-winger, who took one touch before placing the ball above Breeden into the roof of the net.

Powell was introduced following the second goal and had a great opportunity to equalise straight away when he won a penalty. Redditch will have Boucher to thank for their win though, as he dived low to deny Powell.

Boro pressed for an equaliser as the game died out, but Redditch netted a third through Martin again. The goal came from the work rate of Tyreece Kennedy-Williams, as the full-back’s cut-back was swept home by the striker.

Miles Addison grabbed a consolation in the closing stages from a corner for the Boro, but it ended 3-2.
