Ex-Altrincham player and Manager, Graham Heathcote, was the main speaker at this year's dinner. He recounted many stories from Altrincham's glory years including the fact that Altrincham FC are the only non-league club to have reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup in three successive seasons. Graham's speech was received enthusiastically by everyone present.
The Club Chairman, Colm O'Neill, gave an insight into Old Alts' current ambitions and their recent successes in the Manchester, Altrincham and Cheshire Veteran Leagues. Colm also presented Club Secretary, Phil Lewis with Cheshire FA's 2015 People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Football.
The comedian, Mick Miller (the bald guy with the long hair), had the audience laughing from start to finish with his string of one-liners culminating in his impersonation of the drunk radio announcer doing the Noddy show.
The evening was again compered impeccably by Fred Eyre who also takes on the role of auctioneer towards the end of the evening in order to raise as much money as possible for club funds. This year's dinner raised in excess of £2,500.
The Sportsman's Dinner always takes place on the last Thursday evening in November. So please reserve Thursday 24th November in your 2016 diary if you want to be at next year's event.
