Tries: T Taylor, Crick, Lashley, Stamp
Conversions: O Taylor x2
There was some doubt as to whether this fixture would take place during the week, until Staines’ crop of Armed Forces Pacific Islanders made themselves available at the 11th hour, fitting on Remembrance Day.
Inspired by their imports, Staines proved energetic and powerful, time and time again stringing together long phases in the OH 22. But we held firm, restricting them to just a penalty in the early exchanges. 3-0 to Staines, but shortly after it was all OH.
Gaps started to appear in a fractured defence, and stand-in captain Thom Braund took advantage, powering through from halfway to get us on the front foot, before Chris Crick raced under the sticks. Tom Taylor, deputising at tight-head and doing well against some sizeable props, was next on the scoresheet, converting from close range.
Lashley then smartly read a wide pass to intercept on the half way line, and never looked like getting caught. 19-3 to the good at half time, and it was more of the same in the second period. The OH were stoic in defence, and indiscipline started to appear in Staines game, with a number of players lucky to avoid spending time in the bin.
Matt Stamp brought power off the bench to shrug off a couple of tackles to seal our 6th consecutive bonus point win, even if Staines bagged a consolation from close range in the closing moments.
MOTM was ever-industrious lock Tom Tosetti, who continually popped up in impactful places, and made a mess of the Staines lineout for 80 minutes. Old Glynonians away next for the OH, as we march on in what has now become a title hunt.
