In 2006, St. Anne’s celebrated their “Diamond Jubilee” having been formed just after the end of WW2. In the early years, Saint’s led a very nomadic life, having to play on various grounds in the town and using many hostelries has their headquarters.

In the late fifties they had found a ground on Stoneleigh Park in Derker and it turned out to be a godsend, from there they won many games. The 1961-62 season proved to be one of the most successful in the clubs history when they won every competition they entered barring the 1st round of the “Rugby League Challenge cup” where they went down to the old Hunslet side at Parkside in Leeds.

With the formation of BARLA in 1973, it was decided that to make progress in the game they would have to expand. The following year saw the introduction of the “A” team followed by two youth teams at under-19’s and under 17’s. Later, has the teams got older and had to be replaced with younger players, further expansion took place culminating with a team from under eight years old upwards to the open age.

It was in 1982 that the committee’s of both the youth and open age teams began to look for a suitable site in the borough to build a clubhouse and also an area capable of providing space to accommodate two grounds. This was achieved the next year when building commenced at Higginshaw Road by all members of the club from planning to completion.

1983 proved to be a very good year, when no fewer than five members of the under-19’s squad were selected to tour New Zealand with BARLA. Four players went on to the professional ranks and one- Mike Ford- is currently involved in the other code at the highest level coaching with England at “Twickers”. Another well known player to rise through the junior ranks here at Higginshaw Road is Iestyn Harris currently coaching at Crusaders, Iestyn has represented his adopted country – Wales – at both rugby league and union.

On Boxing Day 1997, disaster struck when the club was reduced to ashes after a broke out during the night. Again, the members rallied round and the club was rebuilt on a larger scale to provide bigger and better changing facilities.

The open age teams play in the National Conference and North West Counties leagues and it was in 2003 that brought the greatest success to the club when the 1st team won the BARLA National cup in front of a large crowd at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool.

In 2006, as well has celebrating their “Diamond Jubilee”. The club was awarded the prestigious “Clubmark Award” meaning it fulfils all the requirements set by the governing body of the RFL.

Our most recent success is in the 2010 season gaining promotion from NCL2 to NCL1.
