12th September..An update on Dan...
He’s still comfortable in QE and awaiting for his operation to be scheduled which should hopefully be within the next week. It’s taking a while as they have decided that they are going to try and operate on all of his arm, so shoulder replacement, tendons, and look at his brachial plexus nerves - so a long and complicated and will most likely take a full day.
We have had some amazing progress since Dan has been at QE though. Daniel managed to move his lower arm, up over his chest, with support on his hand and elbow, and he has also managed to slightly lift his index finger. Both take him a huge amount of effort but it is excellent progress for 4 weeks down the line.
He has also seen the nerve specialist and they are confident that the operation will help the movement in his upper arm, but he will still need a lot of physio and it may take quite some time for the nerves to work properly in his hand as that is the end of the nerve network, so it could take up to 12 months but knowing how determined Dan is, I bet he will get it working sooner.
He will have an MRI and CT scan before his op, so we will update you once he has a date scheduled.
