Proposed Alteration to Rules (6)
____________________________________________________
According to Section 19 of the OWRFC Constitution, any alteration / addition of Club rules shall require a two thirds majority at an AGM/EGM.
At the AGM on the 27 June 2024, we will therefore be asking members to vote on a proposal (6) for OWRFC to register as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
More detail on this proposal is included below for your reference.
Subject – Evaluating Benefit of OWRFC registering to be a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC)
Date – 29 May 24
Author – Joe Queening (OWRFC Treasurer)
Objective – The purpose of this decision paper is to evaluate the benefits and provide a recommendation to the OWRFC Members regarding the proposed registration of OWRFC as a CASC. The OWRFC Committee is requesting delegated authority from the OWRFC Members to conduct this change.
Background – OWRFC is currently unincorporated with no special status. The Committee believes currently there are no benefits to incorporation; however, benefits can be associated with becoming a CASC or Charity.
Recommendation – Based on the benefits outlined and the analysis conducted (Appendix 1), it is recommended that OWRFC proceeds with the registration with HMRC as CASC status.
Benefits of Registering as a CASC
1. Liaison with Institutions: By registering as a CASC it will allow OWRFC to be recognised under that “brand”. This will enable benefits of applying for ‘non-profit’ status and preferential rates.
2. Revenue Growth Mitigation: Currently we are within the thresholds, but by conducting this change it will provide a suitable foundation for the tax requirement to be mitigated ensuring maximum retention for the benefit of the club and community.
