Ordsall Rangers U16s 3 Scawthorpe Scorpions U16s 1
Ordsall Rangers U16s won the Doncaster League Cup for the second time to add to their three league titles. It did not look like Ordsall would make it to the final when they were 2-0 down to Bawtry in a semi-final penalty shoot out but some great saves by Will Godbehere saved the day and enabled them to progress to the final at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium. The two teams knew each other well having battled it out at the top of the Premier League all season. It was Scawthorpe who made the early running and Will Godbehere had to rush out of his goal to make an early save from Jenson Pearson. Josh Robson, Harry Keegan and Cameron Dickson in defence also had to make some vital challenges. However Ordsall settled down and Charlie Parker gave them the lead by hammering a 25 yard shot into the top corner of the net from a throw in from Brad Woodward. Ordsall quickly made it 2-0 with another great goal. Lewis White won the ball at right back and played a ball forward to Ryan Mills in midfield who lofted a ball forward to Nathan Reah running towards the left side of the area. Nathan controlled the ball and quickly spun round to hit a first time shot that skimmed past the stranded Scawthorpe keeper at his near post. Scawthorpe pulled a goal back when Oliver Kell fired home from the edge of the area following a goalmouth scramble. Will Godbehere had to make two good saves to stop Scawthorpe equalizing before Ordsall nearly made it 3-1 before half time when Matthew Shaw’s cross from the right was volleyed against the bar by Nathan Reah. HT: 2-1.
The second half was a close affair but the game was settled in the 60th minute. Luke Woodward controlled the ball on the right, swapped passes with Joe Green and then played a ball forward to Matthew Shaw running into the area who turned inside to shoot past the diving keeper into the goal. Further good defending by Lewis Ilett, Josh Robson and Harry Keegan meant that Scawthorpe had few chances. Joe Green nearly made it 4-1 near the end when his header at the far post from Cameron Whitaker’s corner was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Dominic Banner.
Many thanks to Ordsall Manager, Mick Woodward, and his assistants, Stuart Robson and Mark Reah, for all their hard work running the team for the last four seasons. The players and parents have very much appreciated all their hard work.
