A huge congratulations to Matt Fray, Pete Bradshaw, Jamie (Ossett Brewery)and Steve Osbourne who completed the world coal carrying competiton today. All four covered themselves in glory and successfully carried the 50kg bag of coal over the 1100 metre up hill course.
Steve Osboune bagged a £250 cash prize by coming 3rd in the race. With a high number of entries the organsiers had two races (novice and elite). As Ozzy hadnt entered the coal race before he was put in the novice race but blitzed it and won easily in a time of 4 mins 32. The winner of the elite race finished in 4:27 making everyone wonder whether Ozzy could have won the entire event had he had some one to race against. Well done Ozzy - a tremendous effort and we hope you go a couple better next year.
Matt Fray exercised some demons from last years event by finishing a very impressive 12th in his race and 18th overall out of the 60 competitors.
At the age of 68, Pete Bradshaw was the races oldest compeitior and finished 12th in his race and in the top 30 overall. A superb performace considering he had spent the entire weekend in the Tap drinking red wine!!
On behalf of the club - really well done to all four lads who were all superb and gave the enthusiastic Ossett RUFC supporters much to be proud of.
