Ossett 54 vs Rochdale 0

Ossett welcomed Rochdale by the coach load at Queens Terrace for a cross county league fixture- the war of the roses. Rochdale beat us last time out, last season but with a new make up of both teams we didn’t know what to expect.

Rochdale started strong and gave us a bit of a scare but once Ossett regrouped and got into a rhythm we were flying. The first try went in by Olivia, who scores for fun, and Izzie converted, sending the ball into the nettles next door, much to ball boys Jez and Betty’s dismay. A short stoppage later after Caitlin went down after taking a boot to the face and Ossett set off again. Paige, determined to get over after her 5 metre line faux pas in the last game was sadly held up by a determined Rochdale defence. Not to let being kicked keep her down, Caitlin retaliated with a try which was converted again successfully by Izzie.

Amee, feeling left out was next over and once again the kick from Izzie was good. Olivia wanted some more action and saw in another two tries, one of which was converted by Izzie, with Alice putting the ball over the try line just before half time. The kick is good and the half time score is 40-0.

The second half kicked off and Rochdale had a new fire in their bellies, making it hard for us to find a way through. They held us out better and for longer than in the first half. Soaring down the touch-line centre turned winger Ella scored and managed to bring it nearer the sticks to make for an easy Izzie conversion. Another injury stoppage came as Izzie attempted the splits. Sadly she can’t do the splits so she hurt herself and her and her magic boot were carried off the pitch. With a hat-trick not being sufficient, Olivia went over again with Harriet converting.

Calling time slightly early as both teams ran out of subs, the final score was 54-0 to the home team in front of a fantastic crowd. A win for the White Rose of Yorkshire.
