Steven Jeff Interview

Steven Jeff Interview

Neil Spofforth22 Aug 2013 - 19:43

Steven Jeff is one of a number of new faces at Ingfield for this season.

The attacking left back joins the club from Tadcaster Albion where he had a successful season last year personally scoring 17 times and winning the players and fans player of the year awards.

Jeff, the former Barnsley, Goole Town, Selby Town and Scarborough University player is looking forward to the step up to the Evo-Stick League. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing at a higher level and testing myself” he said “and hopefully I can replicate what I did for Tadcaster in the red shirt of Ossett Town”.

Team spirit is essential in all sports and when a group of players are put together as has happened here this summer it is important that team spirit is quickly found, something Jeff is pleased to announce has happened. “The squad is getting along brilliantly. There are quite a few characters that have gelled the team together well. I already knew a few of the lads when I joined, like Qualts, so that helped. The manager and coaches have also been very welcoming”.

Steven Jeff has featured in both league games, striking the bar against Ramsbottom, and in a number of friendlies, impressing throughout and getting on the score sheet in the 7-1 victory at AFC Emley, what does Jeff but the goof form down to? “Quite a few things I think, the new players, such as myself, are keen to impress and are putting that extra bit of effort in. We all know there is competition for places so that also pushes people to play to the best of their abilities.

Craig Elliott and Darren Smith have been working hard on the training pitch to implement a new style of play and Jeff says “The management team have been very clear on how they want us to play; it has been very effective so far. Plus the hard work from the lads in training is paying off.

Following the goal scoring feats of last season will Jeff set any targets for this season? “Not personal ones, I like to keep clean sheets as well as create and score goals but I won’t be putting more pressure on myself by throwing numbers out there. As a team, though, we know what we want to achieve, Craig and Daz are clear what they want. I think play-offs can be achieved, and that gives us a chance of promotion.
