RGC Under 16s finished this season's RAG Competition in style with a hard-fought win over a strong and very skilful Scarlets West Under 16s team on the 4g at Eirias Parc on Sunday. As has been the case in recent games the young Gogs started slowly and it was their West Walian counterparts who opened the scoring after 14 minutes from second-row Caleb Salmon and they were to go 12 points ahead after 25 minutes when their captain Iestyn Thomas crossed the whitewash for their second try. However as the half went on so RGC came more and more into the game and 5 minutes before half-time outside centre Siencyn Metcalfe scooped up a loose pass just outside the Scarlets 22 to stroll in under the posts. Fly-half Ewan Denton added the extras to make the half-time score 12-7 to the Scarlets.

The second-half started in very much the same vein as the first half had ended with RGC starting to take control territorially but with the Scarlets backs looking to counter-attack whenever they had possession. RGC were to score their second try in the 40th minute through second-row Huw Davies but with the conversion missed it meant the scores being tied at 12 points a piece. As the game went on so it looked increasingly likely that a single score would be good enough to win the game for either side, and it wasn't until the 69th minute that the score came. RGC replacement winger Rees Thomas Thompson crashing over in the right hand corner. With the Scarlets claiming the restart there was a very nervy last 60 seconds before the referee blew his whistle to end the game. Final Score RGC Under 16 17 Scarlets West Under 16 12.

Speaking after the game Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson couldn't hide his delight at the win, ' This years 16s squad have from Day 1 been a really special bunch of young men to work with and the fact that they have won 2 of their final 3 games in this years RAG Competition is fair reward for the huge effort they have put in. I thought that every player from 1 to 23 contributed to this afternoon's win against what was an excellent Scarlets West side. The players and their families now have a few well deserved weeks off before we come back together at the end of the month to prepare for our 2 matches over Easter against the Scotland Under 16s sides.'
