Owermoigne FC have enjoyed a successful few years, moving up the Dorset football league, winning back to back promotions, attracting prestigious sponsorship, signing some excellent players and reaching new heights. Despite all that, arguably the side's most satisfying recent memory was just three months ago when the Owls won the Bankes Cup at their first time of entering. A 2-1 cup final win was just reward for a fine display in the prestigious competition that has been running for over 125 years. Tonight, the Owls begin the defence of their title.
Owermoigne are one of five teams vying for supremacy in a difficult group stage and they face the first of their four group games when they travel to play Maiden Newton & Cattistock on Wednesday evening. Owls coach Chris Meadows will have some difficult decisions to make, having already trimmed an available 20 down to a squad of 16. Though Meadows will be without top scorer Olly Stanton and the remaining long term injury victims, there are few other absentees. Can the Owls build on their unbeaten pre season and get their Bankes defence off to the perfect start?
