feeling the heat

Our last home game of the 2021 season and...phew what a scorcher. Callum powered through in the first minute just putting his shot wide, Albie.[playing centre forward had brought a couple of great saves form the Bure keeper and saw one shot just miss the outside of the post as it cut across the face of the goal so after having the majority of the possession and chances city were ruing that they hadn't taken the leads when the Pacey Bure left winger chased down a ball and nestled his shot past Ben in goal for a one nil lead on the half hour. Bure saw a weakness and tried a the same move a couple of times but to no avail. Oxford City kept their composure and kept working chances and finally late in the half got their reward when a cross from skipper Charlie was headed home by striker Callum for his 32nd goal of the league campaign. this spurred city on and Canio receiving the ball from Finley on the right cut back and side stepped two Bure tackles before firing home into the far top corner with a brilliant strike. A corner on the half time whistle was put across the line by Albie but ruled out for a push.

In the second half city took the game to Bure but were conscious that they had a pacey counter attack. Ciaran had several chances in succession but taking a little two much time on one occasion when collecting a cross and the Bure keeper pulling off a great save on another he was beginning to feel it wasn't to be his day, however, Ciaran isn't ever one to give up and finally a cross from creative player Josh was gratefully turned in at the far post by Ciaran. Josh himself brought out a superb save from the Bure keeper and Albie also had a couple of chances before he turned in Josh's pass for his first and Citys fourth and well deserved goal. Albie wrapped up the scoring when after collecting a pinpoint pass from skipper Charlie he drove into the box and placed an accurate shot past the Bure keeper for City's fifth and his own personal second of the day. A hot day and high score line which to be honest was a little harsh on a good , well organised Bure side who made City work for the win throughout the full 90.

Thanks to the referee who made sure the teams had plenty of drink breaks as the thermometer hit the 30s on the pitch. He also allowed the game to flow and played some great advantages for both sides .
We always expect and get a a competitive endeavour v Bure Park who are always tactically astute and a great match up to our team
