Club Merger

Club Merger

Mathew Parry3 Jun 2020 - 16:10

Pentraeth Football Club and Tynygongl Junior Football Club are delighted to announce a merger of the two clubs.

The club will undergo a slight rebrand with the new club inheriting the Pentraeth FC name and club crest, the club colours will be Sky Blue to ensure the identity of both clubs remains as part of the new club for years to come. The merger is a great opportunity to take both clubs to the next level and ensure that players from the local community will continue to receive the same high quality of coaching and opportunities that they have come to expect.

Chairmen of the 2 clubs welcomed the merger. Chairman of Tynygongl Bill Abbott said, “It's a great opportunity for the newly formed club to move forward and support the local communities of Moelfre Benllech and Pentraeth to have a club to be proud of.” While chairman of Pentraeth Rob Parry said “As chairman of Pentraeth Football Club I warmly welcome the merger of Pentraeth and Tynygongl, this will provide a strong foundation to move both clubs forward in youth and senior football.

The club will continue to use the playing fields at Pentraeth, Charlie Baker Field in Benllech and Moelfre Primary School. There will be a small transition period over the next 12 months or so, during this period the junior teams will use their current kits, but once new kits are required, these will be rebranded with the Pentraeth FC badge. The first team will be procuring a new Sky Blue kit but will retain the original Pentraeth colours which date back to the 1950s of yellow and green as an away kit.

Pentraeth First Team Manager sees this as the perfect outcome for the community “I’m absolutely delighted, I coach at both clubs and Tynygongl gave me my first ever coaching role 9 years ago. They are a very well-run club and it’s going to offer so many opportunities for the club and the local youngsters. We’ve always given opportunities to the Tynygongl players, with a handful already at the club, we’ll now be able to offer even more opportunities going forward.”

More details will follow after the first AGM of the club takes place on Thursday 11th June at 7:30pm. This is a public meeting held on zoom to elect the members and officers of the club, and everyone is welcome to attend using the link below: -
